Chapter 262: No One Remembers the Name of the Lamp

Genius Detective

The “that” that Lin Dongxue referred to was some confidential information found in Hou Yue’s computer. It seemed like the president had given him a lot of money to “recognize” the work that he did and as a fee to seal his mouth.

So several people who knew the secret were dead, and Hou Yue was still alive.

The information in the computer was set to be sent to several newspapers if anything happened to him. Fortunately, the police discovered it in time and cancelled the timed sending.

The content was the detailed profit statements of Yuhua Company over the past ten years, as well as a set of algorithms to calculate costs and profits. Except for some differences in details, it was roughly the same as Chen Shi’s guess. Yuhua Company had killed people with toxic ingredients and treated the lives lost as controllable losses.

Everyone in the office saw this information.

“It's terrible!” Lin Qiupu said, “If this thing really falls into the hands of the newspapers, it will cause a large amount of social panic. I think we should ask the Chief about this! But based on this evidence alone, the senior management of Yuhua Company shouldn’t be able to escape. I have another question. What's going on with the dead 'fake Chen Shi'?”

“From the autopsy report, he should be one of the victims,” Peng Sijue said. “Maybe he had been killed in order to silence him because he had taken some measures to find out about this secret.”

“No, the person Hou Yue wanted to kill was me!” Chen Shi pointed to himself.

“Then he killed someone who looks exactly like you? Isn’t that too coincidental?” Lin Qiupu looked at Chen Shi with a little suspicion.

“Some things just happen to be impossible to explain.”

Lin Qiupu was still not convinced, but after all, the DNA test results were proof. He said, “I'll contact the Drug Administration, Economics Police Department and ask the Chief to arrest these scums.”

Lin Dongxue asked suddenly, “Brother, after asking the Chief, will this be made public?”

“In all likelihood, no. How can such a matter be made public? Do you know how many people in the country are using Yuhua's medicine? It would be very troublesome to cause widespread panic.”

“Behind the panic, it was Yuhua Company who did such an inconceivable act. You can't just treat the symptoms but not the root causes. The people have the right to know.”

“You can express your opinions once you become Chief! Don't look...” Lin Qiupu shut down the computer. “What should I do? There’s so much follow-up work! Old Chen, this case was yours to begin with. You come and help too.”

“Thank you for this.” Chen Shi said.

“You're welcome.”

After Lin Qiupu left, Lin Dongxue still felt conflicted. “I really don't want to see this kind of serious issue reduced to something small, and then again to nothingness. In the end, nobody would know, as if it had never happened.”

“Considering Captain Lin’s position, he has to think carefully.” Peng Sijue said.

“He will be back in a while. The data on the computer may be deleted. Do you have any plans...” Chen Shi encouraged, “Behind every shocking piece of news, there is a brave whistleblower.”

“The Chief's order has yet to come through.” Peng Sijue echoed. “At present, us exposing it is just conducting unauthorized actions. It doesn’t count as defying an order yet.”

“So, you guys are going to do bad things!” Lin Dongxue laughed.

Chen Shi turned on the computer. There was a password on the computer. Peng Sijue tried Lin Qiupu's birthday. The password was invalid. Lin Dongxue recited a series of numbers and said, “My birthday.”

After trying it, they successfully logged in.

“Captain Lin is really a...” Chen Shi ridiculed.

“I’ll hit you!” Lin Dongxue blushed and threatened.

“Okay, I won’t say anything more! I'll look for it...” Chen Shi gathered the information and sent it to Lawyer Liu using his own email. When he was ready to send it, he said, “You guys go out first. I'm not an officer, so it’s fine.”

“Whether you’re the police or not, it's not a trivial matter to expose something so major.” Peng Sijue put his hand on Chen Shi's hand which was holding the mouse. “I'm afraid you won't be able to bear the consequences on your own. Count me in.”

“Old Peng...” Chen Shi was moved as he looked at him, “Why is your hand so cold?”

“Just dissected someone.”

“Count me in as well. If Captain Lin gets angry, I'll try and stop him!” Lin Dongxue said cheerfully and put her hand on Peng Si's.

“I don't know how angry he would be.” Chen Shi smiled.

“He would certainly be furious!” Lin Dongxue said with a smile.

“Send!”

Chen Shi pressed the send button and a bombshell that was about to shake the whole country was ignited. Chen Shi did not regret doing it. Justice and order in society were illuminated by myriad lights. The world has become better than before, but not many people will remember the names of each “lamp”.

My presence can make the world a better place. It was this belief that made him return to the police.

In a dark room, the youth examined his face in the mirror. He looked at himself over and over again, and finally broke the mirror with a fist. Blood flowed from his clenched fist.

The computer in standby mode beeped, and the teenager sat in front of the computer and started typing.

“Well-done!”

The line of words flashed on the dark computer.

“My DNA may have been captured by the police and they will soon know my identity.” The teenager replied.

After a moment of silence, the other party responded, “Are you planning to escape?”

“I won’t run away. I will let that guy surnamed Song pay the price, and I will finish with a gorgeous final performance in this city.”

“You’re good. Remember that death is the only way to escape this world.”

“I will be very happy to be able to see my brother!” A smile appeared on the teenager's face and he continued typing, “Ah yes, your shoulder aches as soon as it rains, take care not to catch a cold. Thank you for giving me a new life.”

“Thank you!” The other party responded, “This will be our last time talking with each other! Take care, my friend.”

After the message disappeared, the room returned to darkness...
