How COVID-19 will impact you

Grace Time

The COVID-19 situation is causing the entire world to go nuts. Chances are, if you are reading this, your country is affected as well. Two months ago, it seemed as if it was mainly a problem in China. It didn’t concern us. Although some of us might have felt sympathy for the Chinese people, it didn’t seem like it would truly affect our lives.

But now, it’s the other way around. China appears to be controlling the situation while the rest of the world is scrambling in fear. Most of our lives have been severely impacted by COVID-19.

Borders, schools, events, cinemas, tourist attractions, shops are closing. Many countries are now persuading their citizens to stay home.

For those of you who are young and healthy, you may feel like it’s not a big deal. But please, for the sake of your loved ones, protect the elderly and the vulnerable by not exposing them to more danger.

In order to flatten the curve and buy more time for our health system, we all need to follow social distancing. The more we gather in crowded places, the higher the likelihood that the virus will spread.

It is absolutely necessary that we refrain from all non-essential travels until this situation is under control.

However, what will end up happening is that many businesses will not survive. Without any income coming in, how will they afford to pay their bills and employees?

Without their income, many families will be struggling. Thus, readers, I am writing this post because I want you all to start saving an emergency fund for yourselves.

Ideally, you should have 3-6 months of your income saved in case of emergencies. Things will not always be smooth and it is crucial you have something to factor in unaccounted expenses.

Do not rely put all your faith on your government or employer.

If you start putting away a little per day, it will make a huge difference in the long run. For example: If you save $20 a day, that’s approximately $600 a month. You may say that $600 is not even enough to pay for your mortgage, but it quickly adds up.

In 3 months, it would be $1800. Having $1800 available is a lot better than having nothing.

If saving $20 a day is too difficult in your current situation, then start off with $10.

The most important thing is to take action and start. I don’t want you guys to ever be in a position where you have to decide whether to pay your phone bills or rent.

Please stay safe, everyone!
